Singularity: When Man Becomes God. Sequel to the acclaimed (by Sara) novel Dry.

In a post-apocalyptic world, a man revered as The Black Angel is fractured society's only beacon of hope. He's beautiful, muscled, winged, a masculine ideal. What a shame he also happens to be psychotic, nuking cities at a time with his new-found power.

A little girl named Lynn has had enough of his perfection and she's decided to send this little angel to hell.

The Purpose of this Account

So I decided, since I'm not posting writing here at the moment, I may as well use this space for updating my writing progress. :)

I'm on Chapter 14 of 17 on the final edit of Dry. It should be done before my Games Design course starts (September 21st). If/when I get settled into my course, I'll start submitting to to agents. Really I'd like to get into submitting it as soon as possible. I've been discharged from the 16-19 counselling service and my ex-counsellor says I'll know whether I'm going to be able to deal with the course or not in the first week - if I'm like MOTHER OF MERCY THIS IS GOING TO KILL ME (which I probably will be :noes:) then I go to the doctor and get referred to another counselling service. And my fragile state should also mean it'll take longer for me to submit the book. :( I guess I'm excited because I really really think I'm going to get published. Screw it if I don't - I'm sensitive, I take things the wrong way, but I always recover.

I read a funny fact about publishing. Apparently some publishers will pick 2 books a year to publish. WTF. That's so terrifying I had to laugh. 2 books, out of 4000 submitted manuscripts a year. Know what's better? SMeyer was one of those lucky two possible authors.

But the thing that's getting me at the moment is the promotional side. I mean, what. I read in 'Your Writing Coach' that if you're an introvert it doesn't matter, you can learn to write a pitch. That's fine, I can learn to sell myself/my work, if it's in writing. Then the book makes a massive leap and says 'write a proposal on how you intend to raise awareness of your book. Go on the radio or tv if you can, go round schools etc'. I can't go back to school, when I read that I started hyperventilating, I'm actually that traumatised. And going round, spreading my work, opening myself up for people to laugh at my ideas? Not everyone is going to like Dry, it's only going to hit a select audience, and it's going to divide the readership. People will either like it or hate it, = not good for sensitive author!

My mum came up with a great idea though - start up a website. I emailed the writer of 'your writing coach' anyway asking questions about it and he's just emailed back (within an hour!!) and given me some great suggestions, like creating a facebook page for my novel and some of my characters, or being interviewed by some people. I might talk to :iconthewritersmeow:, that's got a few published people on it. I guess what I could also do is make 'the art of Dry' and do some promotional art for it or something.

Btw Sara, a link for you: [link] she's only 18 and she's got an account right here on deviantart. On this channel she gives out advice on how to get published. :) sorry to make you slog through this doubtful journal...

I went to go watch Mock the Week on Youtube, and the guy that posts the episodes is suspended! :tears: His videos are gone too! Luckily I managed to salvage my favorites by downloading them from Youtube before they disappeared, but I don't know where I'll watch the new episodes...
    :iconscheherazadenewrite:
[link] < HERE!!! That's series 7 episode 10 - from now on every Thursday after they come out you can search for them in sequence - eg series 7 episode 11 will be next :) hope this works!

Hi Neve! :D While I was on vacation, I listened to my iPod a lot in the car, and I remembered to tell you of a few songs that remind me of your characters/novel. Here are a few (there are more, but I have forgotten them):

Pet by A Perfect Circle (Reminds of Alphonse and his 'minions', because he prefers to keep them under control and ignorant toward what is going on. The lyrics are pretty self-explanatory, although there are a few that don't fit with the concept)

Silent All These Years by Tori Amos (This song reminds me of Lynn because of a few lines in the lyrics, but not every line fits in)

Pretty Toy by Velvet Acid Christ - (Yep, Rhodri's song had to be somewhere! This song is mostly instrumental, except for a few lyrics here and there. There's a snippet in the beginning that says "you'll never understand how watching other people's pain gets me off--hearing their screams and knowing that I have the power of a god" really reminds me of the sequel you've told me about. There's actually quite a few Velvet Acid Christ songs that remind me of your story. )

Skinny Little Bitch by Angelspit (The lyrics are self-explanatory)

The Outsider by A Perfect Circle (I really don't have an explanation for why this one is here... it's not aimed toward a specific character, but it fits somehow)

By the way, I've been watching Mock the Week and I've really enjoyed it. There were a few moments -- like the Gordon Brown "manspider" moment -- that made me laugh a lot. :) Thank you for giving me the youtube link to it.

Aw thank you for thinking of me!

Omg I only had to read the lyrics and that's properly Alf. Awesome riff, that song's faved. I never got into APC before that. I like their drums too.

Actually, that's a good Tori Amos song for Lynn, maybe for one of her sunnier moments with the Branch crowd. I've not listened to Little Earthquakes for ages so I didn't even think of it! I loved Precious Things cause it describes submitting to teenage boys just to be noticed.

That lyric is awesome LOL. Sounds like VAC is a band to look into.

Skinny Little Bitch is epic - I keep forgetting to get the whole of Blood Death Ivory. I'm dying to listen to the whole of Girl Poison.

The Outsider is hard to put down, yeah, I can imagine it being an overall theme or something, maybe to a montage of events...

Yay! I vaguely remember the manspider bit... gah I can't remember what happened. I like that Andy Parsons has started taking the piss out of Frankie Boyle. How long till he snaps?!!

Btw would you like me to send you the new Otep album, since you're going to send me the new DSO one? They're like Kittie, except the frontwoman is a LOT angrier. [link] [link]

APC is pretty good. I have respect for the lead singer because when he's not performing he's somewhat of a recluse, and he suffers from social anxiety I think. His other band (Tool) is awesome too.

I'd have to say that "Little Earthquakes" is my favorite album from Tori Amos, because it has Winter (one of my favorite songs) on it. :meow: And strangely enough, Precious Things is the only song on the album that I haven't heard. I'll look into it.

I don't know much about them, I only like three or four songs by VAC. They're gothic industrial/electronic, and I don't like them as much as I do other industrial bands like Skinny Puppy, ohGr or NIN. VAC is more electronic than anything else, and electronic is hard to get into. It's so repetitive at times.

Girl Poison and Skinny Little Bitch are the only songs off of Blood Death Ivory that I have, while I have nearly all of Krankhaus. You could probably find all of Blood Death Ivory on Google. I get albums off of Google when I don't feel like buying them. I could hunt it down for you and send it...

D; Sometimes Andy Parsons is funny, sometimes he isn't. I still think that Frankie Boyle and Russell Howard are my favorites.

Sure! I know who Otep is. :) September must be the month for albums... DSO, Otep, and The Cruxshadows. I'm hoping that these three albums are good. The new albums from a few of my other favorite bands haven't been too good, with the exception of one. I'm feeling good about DSO, because I heard their new song on Youtube and I love it. It takes a while to get used to it, but I'm looking forward to the album.
    :iconscheherazadenewrite:
Awesome, and OH Tool is his band too? Didn't know that.

GAAAAH PRECIOUS THINGS IS AWESOME! Winter is lovely too, I always get it in my head.

Yeah I wouldn't be interested unless it had guitars in it as well, but that Pretty Toy song is still catchy.

I'd get it off Amazon if I was crazy for it :) I might MP3 it.

I think I like Andy P because he's been consistently funny since MTW started, whereas Russell Howard IMO started off naff, and now he's improved a bit. I love how Andy has this funny voice and he's really REALLY bald.

Oh sorry about that, I think I mentioned her before and I assumed you hadn't heard of her! New DSO song? WHERE?

There's another song by VAC that's catchy as well, but then that's about it for me. I haven't really listened to them intensely, but my friend adores them. It depends on taste.

I remember Russell for the three or four insanely funny things he's said. I agree with you on the consistently thing though. Andy makes a relatively funny comment on every show, while Russell sometimes doesn't.

I like a few songs here and there, but I mainly know about her from a friend who's obsessed with her.

    New DSO song here! [link]

The album is called "Sing-Along Songs for the Damned and Delirious" and the song is A Tap Dancer's Dilemma. I didn't like the song at first, but after a few listens, it grew on me. It has more of a "swing music" tune to it, kind of like Balrog Boogie. It doesn't have much of Annlouice's operatic voice in it though, but from what I've heard from the studio recordings, she sings more in other songs on the album.

    IDEA DROP!!!!

By the way, in your story, Alphonse effecting the brain of Matt was a good idea. Here's another one -- maybe he can feed on blood to keep up appearances, but he needs to keep up on personality there as well. Whenever he feeds, he feeds psychologically too. He needs the blood to keep himself appearing young/human like, but he also drains and absobrs the victim's "personality"... like stealing confidence, intelligence, and so on. Without "psychologically feeding", he loses personality bit by bit. For example, if he hasn't drained confidence/charisma from a person in a while, he becomes shy and insecure like Lynn. Just an idea I had and I wanted to share, since high school involves a lot of emotions, and would prove why he'd want to attack a high school first.
